South Kaibab to the Tipoff
South Kaibab Trail: A Supercontinent Torn Asunder
The South Kaibab Trail at Grand Canyon is one of the most spectacular, and popular, trails in the park.  We will traverse soaring mesas and buttes on our way down to the thrilling Tipoff, an amazing cliff atop the Redwall Limestone that provides an intense and sweeping view of Grand Canyon.  While hiking down the South Kaibab Trail, and from the overlook, we will observe the rocks that tell the story of the rifting of the supercontient Rodinia, a massive almagalm of all the Earth's continents, roughly 750 million years ago.
